MACN has been monitoring progress in Egyptian ports and waterways together with its local partners who MACN have engaged with since September 2021. In this breakout session, the members will be provided with updates from Egypt and more importantly on our recent engagement with the leadership of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA). We will also get a sense check from our members on their experience in transiting the Suez Canal and their experience with port calls in Egypt.
The aim is to have detailed engagement and discussion on various risks and challenges, and same time learn of the opportunities that lie ahead.
How to prepare for this session:Kindly review the Notice issued by the Suez Canal Authority as on 1st Mach 2022 that reenforces its commitment to promoting integrity. Refer to MACN
February-March 2022 Newsletter.
We highly recommend you check internally how many Suez transits and port-calls have been made by your vessel in Egypt since the issuance of this SCA Notice, and among them how many incidents were experienced by vessels.
What risks do you experience, and which government actors have been the most challenging during vessel transits and port calls?
You will have the opportunity to interact and raise questions to our local partners on these challenges. You are welcome to reach out to
Vivek Menon at the MACN secretariat to share any specific questions prior to this session.
